Our history
Anyone who climbs the Serra de Montejunto comes across a landscape that enchants the senses. A scene made with the green of the fields, not just the vineyards, and the blue of the sea.
Quinta da Chocapalha is located on this wave, where you go down to the Tagus. The road, which comes from Aldeia Galega da Merceana, has its own charm, decorated with large, centuries-old trees.
However, not everything was adjusted to the objectives that the Tavares da Silva family had in mind, which led Paulo Tavares da Silva to dedicate himself dedicatedly to his study. I also wanted to listen to the oldest people in the villages, who know the secrets of the area's nature. From the beginning, the project has been based on taking advantage of the best that tradition has to offer, combining it with the most modern knowledge and technologies.
Although long recognized as having the potential to produce great wines, that objective has changed. When the Tavares da Silva family arrived at Quinta da Chocapalha, the grape varieties planted were aimed at obtaining production and were in poor condition. Restructuring the vineyard was inevitable to achieve the objective of producing wines that better reflected the special terroir of this estate.
